First Phone Service for Fixed-Line-to-Mobile-Phone
Calls to Begin
Fusion Communications Corporation applied on Feb.
6 to the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications
for the communications service offering call initiation from standard
fixed-line phones (phones and ISDN terminals subscribed through NTT East
or NTT West) to mobile phones within Japan.

Background
to Provision of Service
Fusion
provides
inexpensive
long distance
and international
telephone
services
that minimize
costs to
the customer
through
the use
of the
latest
IP technologies
and streamlined
operations.
These services
have already
won the
support
of 2.1
million
subscribers.
Recently,
customers have
been asking Fusion
for a low-cost
service to make
calls from ordinary
fixed-line phones
to mobile phones
within Japan.
At
present, however,
the price-setting
rights for fixed-line-to-mobile-phone
calls within
Japan via Fusion's
network resides
with the mobile
phone operator,
and Fusion remains
unable to set
prices or provide
services.
As
a solution for
Fusion's customers,
though, the company
has found a way
that makes it
possible to call
mobile phones
within Japan
from fixed lines
using Fusion's
international
phone service,
and this service
is now being
made available.

How
Service Became Possible
By
adding
mobile
phone numbers
in Japan
to the
call destinations
possible
through
its international
phone service,
Fusion
is now
able to
provide
fixed-line-to-mobile-phone
call services
within
Japan.
