Fusion Ties Up with Skype for VoIP Service
FUSION IP-Phone Users to Connect through Skype

Fusion Communications Corporation has agreed to a technical tie-up with Skype Technologies to develop a gateway server to link the IP phone services of both companies. Using the gateway server and by installing Skype's VoIP software, Skype to their computer, FUSION IP-Phone users will be able to access Fusion's IP telephone service and receive calls to their 050 phone number.

For example, users of the FUSION IP-Phone service through a dedicated office IP phone handset (hardphone) can run the Skype software on their computer when out of the office, and via this gateway server that connects to Fusion's IP telephone service external and internal calls received on one's office phone are automatically forwarded to the designated Skype softphone.

The gateway server developed by the two companies will function as a Fusion IP phone terminal. Fusion's IP telephone service allows a single IP phone number (050 number) to be used simultaneously by multiple IP phone terminals in various network environments. As a result, FUSION IP-Phone, FUSION IP-Centrex, and Skype can be connected by using the same IP phone number and other settings on the gateway server as normally used by the IP phone terminal. (*1)

Skype Technologies is the developer of Skype, the pioneering peer-to-peer free VoIP telephony software that allows users connected to the Internet free high-quality voice communications from computer to computer -- a business that has had a revolutionary impact on the telecommunications industry.

With the application of peer-to-peer technology, Skype has made it possible to build a global communications network that requires improved performance as the number of users rises.

The technology is advanced but very simple to use. It can be set up in a matter of minutes and makes it easy to speak to other people for free with high sound quality. The number of Skype users is rapidly increasing worldwide, and the software has been downloaded 100 million times as of April 2005.

Skype Technologies and Fusion are merging the network building technologies and voice communication technologies that each has developed to date to come up with a new concept in IP phone solutions. This partnership offers a new style of phone use that takes advantage of a personalized 050 number and is set to open up a new market for IP telephone services.
